Communication Design BFA Capstone Project
This modular furniture system brings together the aspects of design I care most about: modularity, play, interaction, and experimentation. It’s both functional and exploratory, inviting users to configure and reconfigure its parts to suit their needs and spaces. By combining the practicality of customizable furniture with the joy of hands-on engagement, the project aims to transform a static object into an evolving, playful experience. The system encourages creative problem-solving and empowers users to shape their environments through direct interaction.
My interest in this type of design grew out of a deep connection to 3D making and the satisfaction of working with my hands. I’ve always been drawn to objects that invite touch and transformation—pieces that don’t just sit in a space but evolve with it. Most furniture is single-purpose and easily overlooked, but I believe it can be more: more engaging, more flexible, and more memorable. This project explores how modular design can bring a sense of curiosity and play into everyday life, making furniture not just useful, but personal and fun.
